Welcome to the Maryland Public Mental Health System’s Outcomes Measurement System (OMS) Datamart

The OMS was developed to collect information on people, ages 6-64, who are receiving outpatient mental health services from Maryland’s Public Mental Health System (PMHS). Some of the questions are about living situation, employment, school attendance, substance use, etc.  The information is collected in order to understand more about the people who are receiving services from the PMHS. Information is collected at the beginning of treatment and approximately every 6 months while receiving treatment.

The datamart provides summary information about the people who are receiving services, based on the answers to the person’s most recent OMS questionnaire.  The information in the datamart is updated by the 10th of every month to include questionnaires completed through the previous month.

As you use this datamart, you will notice that information presented might reference a time frame, such as “during the past 6 months…”.  The time frame in this example refers to the 6 months prior to when the person answered the question, not 6 months from the date you are looking at the information.  You will also notice that the number of people who answered each question is not the same from question to question.  This is because there are instances when a person may not have answered a given question.

When you use this datamart, you can select the information that is of interest to you.  Some of the ways you can view the information include:

·        You can view the total number of questionnaires completed by each of four characteristics - age, race, gender, and eligibility status (Medicaid and uninsured).  For example, you can see what percentage of the people who completed the questionnaire was male or female.

·        You can view the results of a particular questionnaire item by single or multiple variations of the four characteristics (i.e., age, race, gender, and eligibility status).  For example, you can see what percentage of people reported living in various housing situations, categorized by eligibility status.

·        You can view the results of two questions from the questionnaire in relation to each other or filtered by one or more of the four characteristics (i.e., age, race, gender, and eligibility status).  For example, you can see the level of housing satisfaction, categorized by type of living situation.  Or, you can see the results regarding job satisfaction for employed women.

Information is displayed in several different formats, including pie charts, bar graphs, or tables, depending on the items you selected.  Explanatory notes and data tables, which will help you better understand the information, are presented below the graphic display.
